Designing 145 homes for an eco-development on the site of the former Erith Quarry in Kent.

Challenge

Erith Hills is a 20 hectare eco-development of 800 homes that will breathe new life into the former Erith Quarry site, which had been neglected for over 30 years. The development will include a variety of open spaces, homes, a new primary school, community facilities, and the retention of ecological areas that complement the existing landscape. Following an initial review of the design and viability of the overall masterplan, we were commissioned by Erith Hills LLP to prepare a reserved matters application for Parcel 1 of the development, which comprises 145 homes arranged over four buildings. Embracing the challenging topography, apartment buildings are organised to seamlessly step down the hillside, offering opportunities to maximise views towards the Ecology Park, River Thames and Rainham Marshes.

Each apartment block is arranged as a cluster of buildings that effortlessly steps down the sloping site, forming the gateway to the overall development
